Amaravati: The Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) officials on Saturday released notifications to conduct social impact assessment in Borupalem, Abbarajupalem and Nelapattu villages under Thullur mandal and Krishnayapem in Mangalagiri mandal of Guntur district. The special deputy collectors released the notifications and kept a copy of notifications in the CRDA office notice boards.

They decided to acquire 94.66 acres of land in Krishnayapalem under Mangalagiri mandal, 23.62 acres of land in Borupalem village, 9.55 acres of land in Abbarajupalem village and 39.81 acres of land in Nelapadu village under Thullur mandal. The officials uploaded social impact assessment study notification in the CRDA website too.

The farmers of these villages refused to give their lands under land pooling scheme for capital construction. The government has taken steps to acquire land under the Land Acquisition Act. District Collector Kantilal Dande has given necessary permissions to the concerned officials to conduct social impact assessment study in these villages.

According to Land Acquisition Act -2013, 4 (1) the officials have to conduct a survey and study its impact and submit a detailed report. They have to discuss with the land owners for land acquisition. The officials also made it clear that intention of the government for land acquisition in the notification. If land acquired, the officials would have to rehabilitate the families who will lose work due to land acquisition.

They have to take public opinion and it will take some time. After submitting all the reports, then the government will give permission for land acquisition. The teams appointed for conducting the social impact assessment met the district joint collector Cherakuri Sridhar and collected necessary guidlines.

They will start the study very soon. It may be mentioned that the CRDA has taken lands from the farmers under the land pooling system, the farmers who came forward to give their lands for the capital construction. Those who refused to give their lands, the CRDA started land acquisition.

Farmers lock up CRDA office

Farmers staged dharna at the CRDA office in Borupalem village under Thullur mandal opposing land acquisition in the village on Saturday. As soon as the CRDA officials pasted Social Impact Assessment notification in the notice board in the office, a large number of farmers came to the CRDA office. They expressed ire on the officials and sent the CRDA officials out and locked the room.

They protested opposing the land acquisition and demanded that the government to immediately withdraw the land acquisition proposal in the village. The farmers raised the slogans against the CRDA and government. The farmers said that if their land is acquired for the construction of capital, they would lose their livelihood and urged the government to withdraw this proposal.

Due to land acquisition, the poor farmers are suffering heavy losses. Police swung into action and brought the situation under control. They opened the locks of the CRDA office and officials resumed their work. The CRDA officials assured that they would take up objections of the farmers with the higher officials.
