Nearly one million people develop end stage renal disease in the country, due to lack of awareness and late referral, very few seek medical help. People with kidney diseases may remain asymptomatic in the early stages.

But, some suffer from headache, laziness, loss of appetite, anemia, muscle cramps and lack of concentration. The disease can affect diabetics, people over 50, smokers, the hypertensive and the obese.”

“Over 50 per cent of deaths in the end stage of the disease are due to heart attacks. When they come early, they can be treated for problems that could lead to kidney diseases. But at later stages even medicines cannot help much, said the nephrologist Urologist P Sampath Kumar said “Diabetics are generally prone to kidney ailments.

Meanwhile, the hospital management is also offering a special health package for women patients with a cost of Rs 2,400 to undergo gynecology, general medicine, mammogram, kidney test and other checkups.
