Centre will launch Rota vaccine in Visakhapatnam in April
After successfully launching a new vaccine of Pentavelin last year to protect children from five diseases including Diphtheria, woofing cough, Tetnus and Hepatitis-B, Government of India is now all set to launch Rota Vaccine in April this year to protect one-year-old infants from diarrhoea which is very common among little children.

Visakhapatnam: After successfully launching a new vaccine of Pentavelin last year to protect children from five diseases including Diphtheria, woofing cough, Tetnus and Hepatitis-B, Government of India is now all set to launch Rota Vaccine in April this year to protect one-year-old infants from diarrhoea which is very common among little children.
Repeated vomittings during diarrohoea is resulting in more than 40 per cent of deaths as the infants dehydrate fast, so Central government after careful examination of vaccine, has chosen Vizag in Andhra Pradesh for the launch. When contacted, Medical Officer of Urban Family Welfare Centre Dr M Venkata Ramana told The Hans India here on Wednesday that the Government of India is also likely to launch ‘Injectable Polio Vaccine’ shortly.
About the Rota Vaccine, he informed that the ANMs were already imparted necessary training in the areas- how to immunise the infants and how to detect their health condition. It will be immunised in three doses alongwith Pentavelin when the infant is of one-and-a-half months old, two-and-a-half months old and three-and-a-half months-old.
Whenever there is a launch of a new vaccine, Medical Officers, Health Education Officers and nurses will be given necessary training at the local Regional Training Centre which is catering to the needs of north coastal Andhra, East and West Godavari districts.
Detailing the works of the Urban Family Welfare Centre which is meant for attending to the health needs of municipal wards-10, 13, 14 and 15, he said they immunise zero dose of BCG, Polio and Hepatitis-B vaccine immediately after the birth, first dose of DPT, polio, Hepatitis-B will be given when the infant is one-and-a-half-months and subsequent doses as prescribed.
Similarly, they also serve pregnant women with the specific immunisation programme and also perform family planning surgeries. ‘All vaccines to be administered either to the infants or pregnant women at our centres or government hospitals are more safe as we keep the vaccines in appropriate temperature round-the-clock” adds Venkata Ramana.
