As part of the World Plumbing Day celebrations, Finolex Industries Limited (FIL) organised a record 60 plumber meets in the country that had a participation of approximately 3,000 plumbers. The meets were conducted in 26 States and 58 cities across the country.

In the South, the company organised the meets in Hyderabad, Vishakhapatnam, Tirupati and Vijaywada which was attended by almost 250 plumbers.

Elaborating about the company’s motive and plan on this occasion, Executive Chairman, Prakash Chhabria sent a video message to all the plumber meets where he thanked the plumber community for playing an important role in the government’s initiative of Swacch Bharat Abhiyaan.

During the event, FIL appreciated the contribution of senior plumbers for their effort and dedication towards maintaining health and sanitation in the country. In keeping with the government’s agenda on skill development, the plumber meet focused on the importance of skilled plumbers in the country.

In this regard, FIL started its first leg of Skill Development programme, which has been developed in collaboration with KUSHAL. A video training module was launched as part of the programme that teaches construction workers and unskilled plumbers the basic do’s and don’ts of plumbing; provides information on plumbing essentials like safety guidelines, sewerage systems, drainage systems, septic pipes and the know-how of this industry.

The first leg of the training programme will include 500 plumbers and will aim to train upto one lakh plumbers in the next five years. Speaking on the occasion, Prakash Chhabria, Executive Chairman of Finolex Industries Ltd. commented, “This day is significant considering that it is World Plumbing Day and being able to reach out to so many members of our plumbing community is heartfelt. ‘Skill India’ is a movement, not just a programme.

We need people who believe in working hard and adding value in whatever they do.” The move from Finolex Industries assumes a great significance as there is a huge shortage of skilled plumbers in India. As per industry estimates, about 90 per cent of the plumbing industry in India lacks professional training thus putting the Indian construction at a major crisis of quality work force.
