Vijayawada: With the summer heat intensifying, bus commuters in Krishna district are desperate for the operation of metro luxury air-conditioned buses by the RTC officials. However, most of these buses are being operated on long-distance routes, for better revenue.

The Krishna region of APSRTC has a total of 17 metro luxury air-conditioned buses, which were operated to Guntur, Ongole and Bhimavaram routes daily. However, these buses are being operated frequently on the routes to meet the passenger rush.

“Most of the buses have been earning a marginal profit every day with more than 50 per cent occupancy ratio. This way, the number of services on routes that fetch more revenue has been increased,” said a senior RTC official.

A majority of the commuters feel the services should be operated uniformly from Pandit Nehru Bus Station, at least during summer. “RTC should increase metro luxury AC bus services between Vijayawada- Rajahmundry, Vijayawada -Narsapur and Vijayawada -Kakinada. During the holidays, there will be more passengers and good revenue can be generated,” said Govindha Rao, a passenger travelling to Narsapur from PNBS.

Passengers also want AC services from Vijayawada-Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam -Vijayawada to be increased, besides the operation of Amaravati Scania buses.

“A lot of people, who travel to the city from other districts, for the holidays, will benefit. RTC should ply as many AC buses as possible during summer. They can bring down the numbers once the heat subsides,” said M Sumathi, a passenger traveling to Visakhapatnam.

He said advanced reservation system would be available at all the depots and APSRTC franchises. He appealed to the commuters to make use of the services of the corporation.

Sukumar also said that in view of Good Friday and weekend, RTC is operating 103 special services from PNBS to Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, Tirupati, Chennai and Bengaluru for the conveyance of passengers.
