ITDA R C Varam tops in farm pond construction
Completion of 250 ponds is over whereas constructions of 2,000 ponds are in various stages.
Rampachodavaram: The Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA), Rampachodavaram, ranked first in the East Godavari district in constructing farm ponds taken up under the Panta Sanjeevani through Employment Guarantee Scheme, Project Officer KVN Chakradhar Babu announced here on Thursday.
Stating that the government has a target to construct 5000 farm ponds, Babu explained that the ITDA prepared estimates for 8,000 ponds and got 6,000 ponds sanctioned. Completion of 250 ponds is over whereas constructions of 2,000 ponds are in various stages. While every drop of water is aimed for irrigation, drinking water and pisciculture, he said farmers in 11 mandals in the agency area have expressed their positive will regarding this.
Reminding that the government is providing additional facilities for the farmers and other agriculture workers under the Panta Sanjeevani, he said that wages has been increased up to Rs 202 for one cubic meter. Farmers are being encouraged to cultivate fish in farm ponds to ensure additional income. The ground water tables would also increase due to farm ponds and help in bore well recharging. N Chandrababu Naidu would inspect the same in Chintur mandal on April 13.
