Vijayawada: APSRTC Managing Director and Vice- President N Sambasiva Rao on Monday informed that an additional bus station would be constructed on the city suburbs to ensure hassle-free journey for the pilgrims during the 12-day Krishna Pushkaralu.

The RTC MD paid rich tributes to social reformer Mahatma Jyotirao Phule on his birth anniversary at a programme organised on Pandit Nehru Bus Station (PNBS) premises.

Speaking on the occasion, Sambasiva Rao said that elaborate arrangements were being made by the officials to cater the needs of the passengers during Krishna Pushkaralu. In this regard, city terminal on the PNBS premises was renovated with modern infrastructure to accommodate 2,000 passengers. Traffic diversion was major concern for the officials in the city. Discussions would be held with the higher officials and district administration over the traffic diversion for the smooth conduct of Pushkaralu, he said.

Sambasiva Rao also pointed out that renovated PNBS terminal would be an advantage to ensure smooth flow of passengers during the event, when compared with bus terminal at Rajahmundry. Nearly 3,000 buses would be added to the APSRTC’s fleet this year to make the State-owned RTC the most preferred mode of transport for the commuters during Pushkaralu.

A sum of Rs 30 crore was spent by the corporation to renovate 100 bus stations across the State with basic infrastructure. Plans were also afoot by the corporation to establish miniplexs at major bus stations in the State on the lines of PNBS terminal. Tenders would be invited shortly for materialising the project, he added.
