People irrespective of their age groups in city are making a beeline for yoga. Although men have evinced interest in the training, it is women who are increasingly enrolling for yoga courses. Most of the reputed yoga kendrams in the city has already started offering three week yoga training courses for both men and women.

Dr B Neeraja of Sri Venkateswara Mother and Child Hospital says “The rise in lifestyle diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, stress and obesity is a worrisome factor that cannot be ignored anymore. Many are falling prey to lifestyle problems before they turn 40. Young generation, who spend long hours in front of computers and TV, should be encouraged to practice yoga.

“It is important for us to incorporate yoga into our regular lifestyle, adding that the ancient art is the right solution to overcome challenges posed by such hectic lifestyle, says the 40-year-old G Yamuna, who is getting trained at the yoga camp.

Speaking to The Hans India on Monday, Sri Krishna Yoga Seva Kendram instructor Ramesh Babu Guruji said “In the present day context, yoga has come as a boon. The demand for yoga classes is growing both in urban and semi-urban areas with individuals become health-conscious and feeling the heat of lifestyle changes, workplace stress, lack of peace and harmony.

The curriculum will include asana, pranayama, pratyahara (senses withdrawal techniques), dharana (concentration), meditation, mantra, value education, food habits and shat kriyas. A systematic practice would go a long way in improving memory and help regulate blood circulation and respiratory system, he explained.

About 75 people attend the classes every day in which 45 are women, all they have to bring is a bed sheet there is no fee. The course followed at the program, held from 6:30 am to 7:30 am, is designed for people troubled by diabetes, spondylitis, joint pain and stress-related health problems. He says those suffering from various ailments have reported significant relief after attending the yoga programs.

Though public awareness of the benefits of yoga is high, it has been found that most people need a common facility and some prodding to make yoga part of their daily routine. “Yoga provides solution to several health disorders, including psychological and emotional disorders, besides eliminating stress levels, and improving harmony between body and mind,” he says.
