Kalaburagi: At a time when netizens feel they have done a lot to save birds during summer by just posting requests on social media to place a bowl of water on rooftops to save the birds, a sexagenarian from Kalaburagi puts all such people to shame. He goes into jungle to quench the thirst of the birds and animals.

The 69-year-old Good Samaritan of Ainapur village Kamalakar Panchal is an early bird. He collects water in the wee hours from nearby shrinking water bodies. He then drives on his two-wheeler towards jungle to check the pots he had put up hanging from branches, where birds frequent.

He cleans the pots and fills them with fresh water. Kamalakar has been doing this for nearly three decades. Ainapur is a village on Karnataka-Telangana border which is severely affected by drought for the past three years.

“I have seen many birds die of thirst. I prefer to serve these tiny creatures. I want them to live, not suffer,” said Kamalakar, who prefers no publicity for his act of benevolence.
