  • Support pours in from all quarters

On the occasion of the 125th birth anniversary of Dr BR Ambedkar, he sat on a hunger strike at Gandhi statue near GVMC office here. Prior to launch of his fast, Amarnath garlanded the statue of Ambedkar near Daba Gardens and took out a huge rally from there to the protest venue.

The CPI, CPM and Lok Satta parties, various NGOs, employee unions and student unions extended their support for the hunger strike besides the top brass of YSRCP. Speaking on the occasion, senior party leader Ambati Rambabu said there was imminent need to take the true fighting spirit of ‘Visakha Ukku’ movement to realise the dream of a railway zone for Vizag.

Rambabu said all the political parties and groups should set their agenda aside for the zone. He said even during the 2014 general elections, both Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi assured Vizagites of a railway zone.

He alleged that the Chief Minister with a fear of being charged in cash-for-vote case, bowed down before Modi government. Both TDP and BJP leaders are cheating the people with false promises,” he added. Amarnath said that he sat on hunger strike in the best interests of the people of North Andhra.

He said he was ready to sacrifice his life for the railway zone, which can resolve various problems of the region and generate employment.
