Aspirants for medical seats continue to rise

The craze for medical education is ever increasing in the Telugu speaking States. The number of aspirants for the stream is only growing by the year. About 101972 candidates from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh have applied to take the test in medical and agriculture disciplines while another 1191 candidates have applied for both medical and engineering for EAMCET 2016.

As per the statistics of Engineering, Agriculture and Medicine Common Entrance Test (EAMCET) examination over the years, applications for eligibility into Medical Colleges are on a rise despite fewer seats. Among all the districts, Vijayawada has registered 18,870 candidates followed by Hyderabad zone two with as many as 13,520 candidates going to appear for the test on April 29.

One important reason behind the mad rush for the course is that there are ample opportunities though the seats are less. Also, candidates from two States are competing for the available seats. During the EAMCET test conducted in the year 2011, candidates who opted for medicine from the region were only 8, 229. In the year 2012, as many as 12,464 have appeared for medicine entrance test.

There are 14,100 candidates who took a liking towards medicine in the year 2013. In 2014, however, the number fell to 11,000 candidates who took the test for a seat in medical college. Again in the year 2015, about 17,630 candidates have applied for entrance into the medical stream from the region alone.

V L Sravani, an aspirant says, “It is my childhood aim to become a doctor. I never thought there would be tough competition for the seats by the time I am finally eligible to take a test. I am confident of securing a seat if not, I would not hesitate to attempt another time.”
