Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister (Revenue) K E Krishna Murthy took District Joint Collectors to task for not having proper supervision on the lower rung staff in the districts.

“Laxity on the part of Revenue Divisional Officers (RDOs) and Mandal Revenue Officers (MROs) in early resolution of people’s problems brought to their notice has become a major issue. And, the attitude of lower rung of revenue officials leaving people to lose their patience,” he said.

Krishna Murthy made these remarks while reviewing the performance of the revenue department at a conference attended by the Joint Collectors (JCs) from the 13 districts of the State and other senior officials of the department here on Tuesday.

Stating that the JCs were solely responsible for the performance of the revenue department at district level, the Deputy Chief Minister asked them to evolve measures to clear the hurdles in issuing passbooks and identification of assigned lands.

He pointed out that several complaints were received against RDOs and MRO for not disposing off the petitions received from the people on various revenue subjects.

And, “It seems the JCs are lacking proper supervision over their subordinate staff in the district, resulting in gross indiscipline taking a toll on the image of the department in the public eye,” he added.

Directing the JCs not to hesitate in taking disciplinary action against the erring officials, he said, “The present government has brought in several reforms keeping in view the people’s interest.

And, there was a good response from the people to the “Mee Intiki Mee Bhoomi programme. However, there have been several complaints alleging that the lower rung of revenue officials have been effecting changes in the revenue records the way they like,” he pointed out.

As the MRO alone has the authority to use the digital key to effect changes in the revenue records, Krishna Murthy asked the JCs to make them responsible for any irregularities made to the revenue records and take disciplinary action against them.
