We know Sandhya Raju as the talented young Kuchipudi dancer, and in the short film, ‘Natyam’ written and directed by budding film maker Revanth Korukonda introduces the beautiful dancer as a talented actor too. ‘Natyam’ is the story of a dancer and singer, Kalyani, who gives up her dream willingly in order to become the ideal wife, mother and daughter-in-law. And, in doing so, her sense of dissatisfaction is only mildly referred to through her letters to her father.

She tells her father about how responsible and good her husband is and how her life is very good, yet she does not feel totally happy. But, she does not realise that in order to forget the person she had loved and could not marry, she has also forgotten her dream as an artist. Committed to her role as a woman in the family she unwittingly suppresses her dream her identity.

The film takes the viewer through the beautiful world of Kuchipudi, even while it takes us through the external and internal conflict of a married woman, who after seven years of marriage, tries to rekindle her passion for dance, and in the process, discover her identity.

“As an artist I feel Natyam will inspire many women who relates to the role played in the film by me. What brings joy to me is that the film is being showcased to the world on the eve of International Dance Day it is a compelling tribute to a great art and its revival.” Sandhya Raju shares.

Brilliant execution, engaging script, aesthetically chosen locations, sensibly designed costumes and good performances make ‘Natyam’ a must watch film. Given the short duration, Revanth has showcased the intense play of emotions quite well. One does hope, he will make a feature film soon retaining the sensibilities.

The film also has the popular Kuchipudi exponent Alekhya Punjala, Sanjay Raichura and Vasudev Rao in the cast. Music composed by Prashanth R Vihari and Arun Varghese is yet another endearing facet of the film. The film will release on You Tube today.
