The power plant costs Rs 24 lakh and produces 10 units of power every day. The government provided a subsidy of Rs 12 lakh and the remaining funds were born by the PCB department.

Joint chief environment engineer B Madhusudhan Rao of PCB told the minister that the entire money would be recovered in one year. Following complaints from the local MLA and floor leader of BJP in the Assembly P Vishnu Kumar Raju, the minister immediately convened a meeting of PCB officials and told them to contain pollution to permissible limits.

The minister said if the units not able to control pollution in their expansion projects, they should be shifted out of the city. The chief minister is serious about the pollution in the city as he wants to make Vizag free from the pollution. Stringent action should be taken against the industries who were not complying with the rules,’’ the minister told the officials.

MLA Vishnu Kumar Raju said the coal dust emanating from Visakhapatnam has reached alarming proportions in the city and surroundings and the PCB officials are dragging their feet to issue a notice to the Port authorities. Citing the Tamil Nadu case, Raju said the Madras High Court banned handling of coal due to pollution and it was later to shifted to Ennore Port from Chennai Port.
