The Central Government gave another shock to the ruling TDP on Wednesday after categorically saying that Andhra Pradesh would not be accorded the special status category. In a written reply to TDP's Anakapalle MP Avanti Srinivas' question regarding the issue, Union Minister of State for Finance Jayant Sinha said that the special status category is not a part of the AP Reorganization Act.

The Minister further said that even Niti Ayog didn't recommend special status to AP adding that there is no immediate proposal to change the criteria for special status. However, Jayant Sinha said the allocations specified in the bifurcation act would be given to AP, mentioning that the Centre released Rs 12,806 crore so far and that the state would get special package.
