In the wake of the intense protests that have been going on since Monday over the death of the worker Devender who lost his life after he fell into a concrete cement mixer of L&T contractors, the AP government has announced Rs. 20 lakh ex gratia to the family of the worker.

The incident took place at the site of the construction of temporary Secretariat building at Velagapudi. The workers who workers went on a rampage over the incident demanding more security at the construction sites. With this incident being the second one in the recent past, the workers put up a string of demands including Rs. 15,000 wages per month, decreasing working hours to eight hours a day and insurance.

They even destroyed the furniture and vehicles at the L&T office in Velagapudi. Police who tried to intervene in the situation were not able to handle the situation. Following the intervention of the L&T management, the workers gave up the protest.
