The upcoming Krishna Pushkarams have brought about many changes in the city’s landscaping and beautification works. Parks in the city, which are severely neglected until recently, are being developed by the municipal authorities on war foot. Under the Housing and Urban Development Corporation (HUDCO), a lump sum of amount was released toward improving amenities at the parks.

The Rajiv Gandhi Park, which is known to be popular among city folks, is the first one that is to undergo development works. Given that the park is close by the PNBS; many devotees might as well visit it before they get to see other tourist places in the city like Bhavani Island and ghats.

About Rs 1 crore has been earmarked for the purpose of developing these parks, which will be open for families unlike before. With a budget of Rs 40 lakh, activities and play paraphernalia were set up at Rajiv Gandhi Park, which includes basketball stand court, giant wheel, elephant ring, gun shooting, helicopter ride, trampoline jump, adding to the existing cup and saucer, toy train among others.

The enclosures, which once housed animals like goose, rabbits, pigeons, turtles and hens were however left behind. More activities like Columbus ship, break dance, dashing cards and others are yet to be equipped in these parks. Drinking water, wash rooms, water fountains and etc are going to be set up for the convenience of the visitors.

Greenery across the parks is high on the agenda and another famous KL Rao Park in Chitti Nagar is also under the development radar. The Park has a swimming pool, which serves as a recreation for people of the entire Old City.

According to an insider of the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation, “Works in respect to development of parks are being hurried. We are making efforts to ensure that the devotees and visitors are provided recreation in the city as much as possible. Greenery is our priority and apart from that, we are keen on providing some play arena for children to have fun at the parks.”
