As a part of the Weekend cultural programme of the Department of culture and Language, Government of Andhra Pradesh, on Sunday evening, conducted a dance ballet titled ‘Sri Vasavi Kanyaka’ at Ghantasala Venkateswara Rao Government Music and Dance College.

Maddali Sai Chandrika choreographed this dance ballet with help from his disciples and other dance colleagues. ‘Sri Vasavi Kanyaka’ is a mythological subject penned by K Murali.

The dance ballet attracted audience with sets and colorful costumes. But the director and even the make-up artists had not paid keen interest on make-up of the ‘muni’ characters like Bhaskaracharya, Durvasa and others.

The performance of the artistes was good and captured the attention of the spectators. The other artistes Satya Prasad, Malleswari M Sai Sathwika, Navya,, Hema, Teja, Kranthi and others supported to raise the ballet.

It is a welcoming decision of the State Government to conduct one cultural programme on every Sunday to encourage artistes. But why the administration has confined to Music and Dance? The other allied arts like drama, folk forms should also be promoted like music and dance. Hope the department will think to promote those arts forms too.
