Chittoor: More YSR Congress MLAs are set to switch their loyalties to the Telugu Desam Party during TDP Mahanadu slated to be held on May 27 in Tirupati. It may be recalled here that many YSRCP MLAs Varupula Subba Rao of the Prathipadu constituency in East Godavari district and P Sunil Kumar of Guduru (SC) in SPS Nellore district joined the TDP in the presence of Chief Minister and TDP national president N Chandrababu Naidu.

The two legislators asserted that they were returning to the TDP only to take part in the development process under Naidu’s leadership. The influx began with the joining of Nandyal MLA Bhuma Nagi Reddy on February 22. Four days prior to that, YSR Congress MLA from Badvel in Kadapa district T Jayaramulu joined the TDP.

Pathapatnam (Srikakulam district) YSR Congress MLA Kalamata Venkata Ramana Murthy crossed over to the TDP in first week of March. YSR Congress MLA from Yerragondapalem — Palaparthi David Raju — joined back the TDP in the last week of February. Another YSRCP MLA from Prakasam district Gottipatti Ravikumar formally joined the ruling TDP in April.

Former Minister K Subbarayudu from West Godavari district too joined the TDP recently. According to sources, former legislator Suraj (Satyavedu) is likely to join the TDP, who earlier joined hands with N Ramamurthy Naidu, the rebellious younger brother of Chief Minister, N Chandrababu Naidu during YS Rajasekhara Reddy regime.

Dr R Venkataswamy, founder of several reputed educational institutions like SV Engineering College in Chittoor is also likely to join the TDP. Chittoor legislator D A Satyaprabha, widow of former MP and TTD trust board Chairman D K Audikesavulu Naidu, has been made vice-president in the party’s Central Committee, which is considered a significant elevation for the first-time MLA.

It may be mentioned here that in the wake of MLAs exodus from YSR Congress party, party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy challenged Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu to agree to a referendum by asking the MLAs who defected to the TDP to resign and get re-elected. To counter TDP, Jagan made former TDP MLA A S Manohar as the YSRCP Chittoor coordinator.

Speaking to The Hans India, district TDP president G Srinivasulu described the YSRCP as a “sinking ship,” which no sane person would board. He said Jagan was fast losing people’s confidence. He said “Our responsibility has grown manifold. Now, we have to work harder to meet the expectations of people.” He said, “At present, our sole aim is to fortify our position in AP.”

“Our party chief Naidu directed us to implement strategies to consolidate the party from booth level to constituency level in each Assembly segment. He has asked us to make special efforts to strengthen the party in segments that are dominated by the YSRCP,” the leader stated.
