Speed up Vijayawada airport works
Union Urban Development Minister, M Venkaiah Naidu, here on Friday, urged the Civil Aviation Minister P Ashok Gajapathi Raju to speed up the land acquisition process for Vijayawada international airport. He said all the three airports - Vijayawada, Tirupati and Visakhapatnam-should be upgraded at the earliest.
​New Delhi: Union Urban Development Minister, M Venkaiah Naidu, here on Friday, urged the Civil Aviation Minister P Ashok Gajapathi Raju to speed up the land acquisition process for Vijayawada international airport. He said all the three airports - Vijayawada, Tirupati and Visakhapatnam-should be upgraded at the earliest.
Raju called on Venkaiah Naidu at the latter's chamber here on Friday. Both the Ministers discussed about the possible synergies in urban development and aviation sectors.
They also discussed about civil aviation policies and the need to have more and more regional connectivity and upgrading the regional and sub-regional centres into international destinations.
Naidu sought early expansion and conversion of Vijayawada Airport to international standards. The Minister said that land acquisition was a major issue and that needed to be addressed at the earliest. As the airport was to be located at the capital region, primary focus should be given to Vijayawada, Naidu said.
