Chirala (Prakasam): The One Town police rescued an 11-year-old girl of Hyderabad from the clutches of a person who runs a brothel. The ordeal faced by the girl underlines the need to evolve stringent laws to protect minor girls from falling into victims hands of those who run brothels.

The government and NGOs need to make concerted efforts to rescue the girls who are forced into the flesh trade. According to police, the girl’s mother, resident of Balajinagar in Hyderabad, separated from her husband and got into a live-in relationship with another man.

Sensing that the girl was becoming an obstacle in her illicit relationship, she sold her minor daughter to a woman in Vijayawada. After being transacted like a commodity by three or four brothel runners, she finally reached Vani, who runs a brothel in Jandrapet.

Vani’s lover Jithin who sexually assaulted the girl several times, subjected her to severe torture. Vani met with an accident recently while she was shifting the girl to another place in an auto. When the injured brothel runner was shifted to hospital, the girl managed to escape from the accident spot and reached Chilakaluripet.
