With the continuous defections taking place in the YSRCP, the party leaders are making their best efforts to prevent anymore MLAs to switch parties.

YSRCP general secretary Bhumana Karunakar Reddy on Saturday appealed to Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Venkaiah Naidu to ensure that the defected party MLAs were disqualified. Stating that due to the loopholes in the existing Anti-Defection Law, the ruling TDP was trapping the YSRCP MLAs, Karunakar Reddy said that they had approached Andhra Pradesh Speaker Kodela Sivaprasad Rao on the issue of defections but there was no response to their pleas.

The YSRCP leader further said that they, now are seeking the Centre's intervention to bring amendments in the Anti-Defection Act so that the Speaker would have no say about ruling on defections and the power entirely lies with the Centre.
