Vijayawada: Week-long campaign launched by NGOs and Government departments against child labour concluded at the V M Ranga Municipal Corporation High School at Krishnalanka here on Saturday. Representatives of NGOs, Government officials, students and teachers attended the concluding programme. Forum for Child Rights and Child Line 1098 in association with various Government departments and NGOs organised events against the child labour for the last one week in the city.

Addressing the students of V M Ranga High School in Krishnalanka on the occasion, VMC deputy education officer K Durga Prasad said the civic body was running schools in every nook and corner of the city and imparting education to the children. He said the children get textbooks, mid-day meals, uniforms free of cost and there was no need of paying fee in the VMC schools.

He said the Government was appointing qualified staff through DSC recruitment and VMC was providing infrastructure facilities to the children.

He said the VMC was also increasing English medium schools due to the increased demand for the English medium education in the city and underlined the need for eradication of child labour in our society.

Noted education counselor M C Das said child labour menace should be checked in society.

He said all children have right to education for that the Government departments and NGOs are trying to make Krishna district a child labour-free district. He said child labour were declining rapidly in Krishna district due to the efforts of the Government, NGOs, parents and educational institutions.

VMC education committee chairman Md Nazeer Hussain, Forum for Child Rights city co-ordinator Arava Ramesh,Child Line centre co-ordinator S Jacob and staff of women and child welfare department, labour department, VMC, police etc attended the concluding session of the week-long campaign.
