Stringent action sought against accused in girl attack case
District Mahila Congress president R Sreedevi alleged that police are reluctant to take stringent action against the accused, who attacked the teenage girl for spurning his love.
Tirupati: District Mahila Congress president R Sreedevi alleged that police are reluctant to take stringent action against the accused, who attacked the teenage girl for spurning his love.
Sreedevi along with Mahila Congress activists on Wednesday visited the house of the victim in KB Layout here and enquired about her health with her parents.
Later, in a press release, she said that police were deliberately suppressing the facts about the attack on the teenage girl. She said that the main accused still continued sending abusive, obscene and threatening messages through Facebook and phone to the girl so as to terrorise her and her family to withdraw the case after the attack due to the soft approach of police towards the incident.
The main accused, who surrendered in the court, was let off on bail on June 21 of this month, she said criticising the police for their failure to prevent him getting bail and also re-arresting him under Nirbhaya Act. She said that police claim that they registered a case under Nirbhaya sections but how could he roam freely on bail.
She said that Mahila Congress will take up a statewide protest if the police did not arrest the accused Naveen and provide foolproof security to the victim. In a significant development, Anantapur DIG Prabhakar Rao ordered an inquiry by Tirupati East DSP on the allegation of negligence against Alipiri CI in the case.
