Eluru: Mayor Sheikh Noorjahan inaugurated the Citizen Charter office at Municipal Corporation of Eluru on Sunday.

Addressing the gathering on the occasion, Noorjahan said that some of the services were decentralised to offer more efficient services to the people. She said that a helpdesk was started at the Citizen Charter for improving the quality of public services.

Municipal commissioner Yarra Sai Srikanth said the Charter highlights the standards of service delivery and also avenue for grievance redressal for empowering the citizens so that they can demand committed standards of service from the authorities.

He said if any grievance is not addressed at a particular level, then an avenue should be laid for the complainant to approach the next higher authority. Officials at each level should alert their next superior official well in time if a grievance is likely to exceed the prescribed time norm, he added.

He said State has been making remarkable strides in decentralised planning, governance and development by implementing the Charter in toto and also a complaints redressal mechanism. He said civic bodies have been given the permission to improvise the framework to suit their local needs.

Mayor Sheikh Noorjahan said biometric attendance would be implemented in Municipal Corporation office soon. MLC Ramu Surya Rao, Deputy Mayor Gudiwada Ramachandra Kishore, cooption member S M R Pedababu and others participated in the programme.
