Minister inspects road works in city

Vijayawada: Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister P Narayana inspected the development works in Vijayawada East Assembly constituency on Wednesday. As many as 23 works were taken up at a cost of Rs 35 crore in the Assembly segment for the ensuing Krishna Pushkarams.

The Minister, accompanied by Mayor Koneru Sridhar, Municipal Commissioner G Veerapandian, Commissioner and Director of Municipal Administration K Kanna Babu and other senior municipal officials, visited several places in the Assembly segment to review the progress of works being executed in four packages. He also examined the quality of raw material used in laying of BT roads.

After inspecting the road and drain works in the Assembly segment, the Minister expressed his satisfaction over the pace of works.

He asked the officials to ensure that the contractors strictly abide by quality standards in execution of road and drain works. After completion of the road works, raising of plants should be taken up in a systematic manner to promote greenery in the city.

Desiltation of drains would be taken up on a priority basis to prevent inundation of low-lying areas in case heavy rain lashes the city, he said. VMC chief engineer MA Shukur, executive engineer Ch Dhanunjaya and other engineering officials accompanied the Minister during his inspection.
