Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh state government, which had taken 33,000 acres of land from the people for the new capital, has now decided to take 22,000 acres at Machilipatnam. The land would be acquired like it was done in the case of the capital region.

The government is offering 1,000 square yards residential and 200 square yards commercial plots per every acre in return. The land would be used for the Machilipatnam Port, Industrial Corridor and development of the Machilipatnam city. The AP Cabinet, which met here on Friday, has decided complete the land pooling process by July 7, 2017.

Disclosing the Cabinet decisions to the media, Minister for Information and Public Relations Palle Raghunadha Reddy told media persons that the government would hand over the land to the Machilipatnam Area Development Authority (MADA) for development.

The land would also be handed over to the Port and Industrial Corridor as per requirement. The land covers 29 villages around Machilipatnam, the Krishna district headquarters town. The government would withdraw the land acquisition notice already issued for acquisition of 30,000 acres in the area, he said.

Though the Cabinet had agreed to give the Amaravati package to the farmers, the government would not pay the 10 years compensation of Rs 50,000 per acre each to the land owner as in the case of capital villages.

The government also decided against paying the Rs 2,500 compensation to the agriculture workers in the Machilipatnam area as in the case of the capital villages, he added. This was because the land in Machilipatnam was not fertile like that of the capital villages, he said.

The government would provide basic infrastructure like roads, drains, electricity on these lands and hand over the plots to the land owners before July 7, 2017, the Minister said. The Cabinet also decided to allot 4.2 acres of land to AP Vidya Vidhana Parishad to set up 300 bed hospital at Narasaraopet in Guntur district.

The government allotted 45.27 acres of land to BELL company to establish test-bed facility for rocket and weapon launching at Palasamudram village of Anantapur district. The Minister further said that the Cabinet had approved allocation of land for expansion of the SEZ in Visakhapatnam, expansion of LV Prasad Eye Institute in Narsipatnam and Sahitya Educational Society at Nellore.

The Cabinet also decided to acquire land for the Micro Small and Medium Entrepreneurs (MSME) across the 175 Assembly constituencies to establish MSME clusters in every constituency. Every cluster is planned to come up in 100 acres, he said and added that the government would provide basic infrastructure in every cluster and sell them to the small and medium entrepreneurs at nominal prices to promote the MSME investment.
