A flood alert has been issued in East Godavari district on Tuesday after water levels rose to an alarming level of 51.04 feet. Devapatnam, Posama Gandi, and Kondamedalu have already witnessed water levels rising to danger levels.

The district officials are making arrangements to evacuate those affected in the regions while the revenue officials are planning to use police force as few villagers are reluctant to evacuate.

While the first warning alert was issued at Dhavaleshwaram barrage on Tuesday, a second level warning alert was already issued at Bhadrachalam. A third alert would be made if the water level rises to 53 feet. Khammam district officials have deployed boats and a half a dozen swimmers along the banks.

In Andhra Pradesh, floods are creating havoc and about 28 villages have been cut off other parts of the state due to the heavy rains hitting East Godavari.
