Vijayawada: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday expressed anger at the contractors for the slow pace of the Pushkar ghat works.

The Chief Minister inspected the bathing ghats along the river Krishna, as Pushkaralu are fast approaching.Naidu took the contractor to task, for slow pace of Sitanagaram Pushkar ghat works. He asked the officials to book cases against the contractor, arrest and black list him.

As the contractor was also not available at the ghat, the Chief Minister directed the officials to ensure that action was taken against the contractor and the works were completed on time.

Stating that he was reviewing the works regularly, Naidu said that they have taken the Krishna Pushkaralu works as a top priority. “We have trusted the contractors and told them to speed up the works. But the lethargy is painful. How can we complete the works and keep the ghats ready for the devotees if the works move on this pace,” he asked.

Minister for Water Resources Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao tried to pacify the Chief Minister promising to keep a regular check on the progress of the works and ensure that they are completed ahead of the schedule. The Minister took the responsibility to monitor the works on regular basis.

Later, the Chief Minister stopped at the Prakasam Barrage and enquired with the officials on the availability of the water in the river. He also asked the officials about the flow of Godavari water from Pattiseema project. He wanted the officials to keep the Barrage full with the water, while ensuring release of water into the canals.

Naidu instructed the officials to take up beautification of the Prakasam Barrage for Pushkaralu. He inspected the apron works in the downstream of the barrage and instructed the officials of the Water Resources Department to complete the work by July-end.

When the Chief Minister visited the Kanakadurga ghat, the staff of the NDRF welcomed him and presented him with the safety measures that they have planned for the Pushkaralu. The staff demonstrated the rescue operations in the river for the Chief Minister and the team.

Ministers Umamaheswara Rao and P Narayana, Mayor Koneru Sridhar, Krishna district collector Babu A, municipal commissioner G Veerapandian, police commissioner D Gautam Sawang, water resources principal secretary Sasibhushana Rao and others were present.
