Rajamahendravaram: A prime accused in ganja smuggling case, who was nabbed along with five others for smuggling ganja worth Rs 1.5 crore near Kadiyam three days ago, died of heart attack at a Government General Hospital here on Thursday.

He was identified as G Satyanarayana Reddy. According to Superintendent of Central Prison Varaprasad, Satyanarayana was brought to jail on Tuesday night.

Initially, Satyanarayana refused to undergo medical check-up on Wednesday morning though it was mandatory in jail, but on the persuasion of jail authorities, he had undergone check-up at Government General Hospital on the same day evening. However, he died on Thursday morning following a massive cardiac arrest.

It may be mentioned here that police filed FIR in Kadiyam ganja smuggling case, in which Satyanarayana was named as accused No 1 in the case.

It was learnt that Satyanarayana was suffering from many ailments including diabetics, blood pressure etc. In 2010, he was sentenced to 14 years in prison in ganja smuggling case at Jaggampeta police station in East Godavari district. He was also an accused in a kidnap case.
