Speaking on the occasion, Dr Akula said that though the 130-year-old Gouthami library has regional library status, it was not developed in tune with its category. 

Rajamahendravaram: Historical Gouthami Regional Library would be developed in order to cater the needs of future generations, Rajamahendravaram urban MLA Dr Akula Satyanaryana said here on Thursday. He, along with the library committee member Dr Aripirala Narayana Rao and librarian Venneti Satyannarayana inspected the dilapidated building on the premises of library here on Thursday.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Akula said that though the 130-year-old Gouthami library has regional library status, it was not developed in tune with its category.

He said that Rajamahendravaram MP Maganti Muralimohan sanctioned funds fromMPLADS to the tune of Rs 75 lakh for the development of the library and added that the steps were being taken to construct a new building in place of the old one with the additional support of donors. He further said that furniture and other amenities would be provided along with the new building for the library.

He said that steps would also be taken to preserve the ancient palm-leaf manuscripts in scientific method.On observing that most of the readers are reading books by sitting under trees, Dr Akula suggested that old furniture, iron and other material in the dilapidated building should be disposed of through public auction.

He informed that the demolition of old building would begin on Friday and added that he would write a letter to the government in connection with the demolition of old building, auction of old furniture and the construction of new building. He thanked MP Muralimohan for sanctioning funds for the library.
