Amaravati: Minister for Social Welfare Ravela Kishore Babu launched a mass plantation drive in Kondaveedu forest area of Perecherla in Guntur district on Friday. Speaking on the occasion, he said that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu launched one crore saplings plantation drive, as part of ‘Vanam Manam’ programme. He said that the aim of the government was to increase the green cover up to 50 per cent in the State.

He urged the officials to take care of planted saplings. He asked MP Galla Jayadev to supply tree guards to the protect the saplings. He said that during the next three years they would plant another three crore saplings in the State.

The Minister said that he was seeking support from industrialists and corporate houses to supply trees guards to protect the planted saplings. Earlier, he planted saplings at ST Joseph College and launched Vanam -Manam programme held under the aegis of GMC in Guntur.

Speaking on this occasion, he urged the people to participate in the programme and make it a grand success. MP Galla Jayadev, MLA Modugula Venugopala Reddy, GMC Commissioner S Nagalakshmi, officials of various government departments were present.
