Vijayawada: In-charge DGP N Sambasiva Rao on Saturday said that 24,000 police personnel will be drafted and 1,300 CC cameras will be installed for Krishna Pushkaralu to be held next month. He said two Command Control rooms will be arranged at Pandit Nehru Bus Station and AR Police Grounds here to monitor the crowd.

Addressing a press conference at RTC State Head Office here, the in-charge DGP, who is also the Managing Director of APSRTC, said the police, APSRTC and transport departments will work in coordination to ensure the smooth conduct of Krishna Pushkaralu.

The in-charge DGP said the government will release maps relating to the bathing ghats, route maps, RTC buses, Pushkar Nagars and other details. He said these maps will be affixed to the RTC buses coming from other districts.

He said the Pandit Nehru Bus Station in Vijayawada will be used for city services during the Krishna Pushkaralu and long-distance buses will not be operated from PNBS for 12 days.

The in-charge DGP informed the media that the police department has already identified five parking lots in and around the city and another 136 private parking lots for vehicle parking. He said that the RTC would operate 600 additional buses, if needed during Pushkaralu.

Asked about the food supply, he said coordination is needed between various government agencies and NGOs on food supply to the pilgrims. He said many NGOs are ready to distribute food free of cost to the pilgrims but these NGOs should inform the government about their intention so that the officials can help them.

Referring to tollgate fee exemption on national highways during Pushkaralu, he said the government was trying to make arrangements for free passage of vehicles on national highways. But, he did not give guarantee about the free passage during the Pushkaralu.

He said the government has to take a decision on it. He said police were planning to de-mark no vehicle zones in Vijayawada for the convenience of pilgrims coming to the city and the list would be declared soon.

City police commissioner Gautam Sawang and other officials were present on the occasion.
