Vijayawada: Students who are enthusiastically taking part in ‘Transforming Vijayawada’ campaign launched by Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) received compliments from Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu ,here on Saturday.

The VMC had launched ‘Transforming Vijayawada’ campaign recently to make the city poster-free and wall writing-free zone, ahead of Krishna Pushkaralu. Scores of students adorned the compound walls and public spaces with paintings on MG Road and Eluru Road to create pleasant ambience.

The Chief Minister conducted an interactive session with the students at A Convention centre and praised the students for their efforts to make Vijayawada a beautiful city. He said that he was delighted to see young students taking part in the campaign.

He said over 500 students were painting the walls with murals with various themes like Indian Dynasty Art, Calligraphy, Stencil Art, Kings History and Marine Art. He said these arts reflect the glory and history of India and Indian kings.

He said the government had launched Vanam Manam programme to increase the green cover of forests to 50 per cent from the existing 26 per cent by 2029. He appealed to the students to plant saplings and nurture them. He said the government will declare fourth Saturday as holiday to educational institutions so that the students can take care of plants.

Acharya Nagarjuna University student Spoorthi said she drew inspiration from the district officials and leaders and taking part in the campaign. Another student Vijay said he is happy to take part in the campaign to make the city walls beautiful with spectacular paintings.

Students of Acharya Nagarjuna University, Nalanda Degree College, Siddhartha Arts College and other educational institutions took part in the interactive session. The students also presented a dance performance on the occasion.

Vijayawada MP Kesineni Srinivas, Irrigation Minister Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao, Collector Babu A, Mayor K Sridhar, Municipal Commissioner G Veerapandian, VMC staff, principals and students attended the event.
