Srikakulam: A dilapidated primary school building abutting the new building at Uppinivalasa village under Burja mandal is posing a threat
to children.

Although villagers had made several requests to authorities concerned to demolish the old building – as school students play around the
building – no action has been taken so far.

Prior to the start of the current academic year, Collector P Laxminarasimham directed the officials of Education department and Sarva
siksha Abhiyaan to pull down all old school buildings to avert any mishap.

In fact, the Collector also visited the school building in Uppinivalasa during the last week of June and specifically instructed the officials
there to bring down the old building. However, as things stand today, the lurking danger is standing tall in form of the building.

About 60 children of primary schools located in the neighbourhood play around the building regularly, said Uppinivalasa villagers B
Narayana and T Parvathi.

When The Hans India contacted Palakonda division deputy education officer and in-charge education officer for Burja mandal I Venkata
Rao, he said a local contractor was put on to the job.

However, the contractor, P Ramu, for his part said he was unable to carry out the work as there was dearth of proclainers.
