Eluru: All private and government schools were closed as a result of one-day bandh call given by SFI, AISF and PDSU on Monday in West Godavari district.
In response to the bandh call, the students boycotted classes in Eluru city. The students’ unions demanded the government to withdraw its anti-student policies.
The students took out a big rally in Eluru city, in protest against the attitude of the government towards education sector.
The leaders alleged that the government is trying to close the government schools in the name of merger. They also demanded enhancement of the mess charges in welfare hostels and provision of own buildings to government junior colleges.
The SFI, AISF and PDSU leaders and students reached Fire Station centre in the city and resorted to a rasta roko, resulting a traffic jam on the national highway for an hour.
Due to the bandh call, private educational institutions declared a holiday on Monday.
The student leaders and workers went to various government schools and asked the students to come out of the school to join the agitation.
