Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu  asked the Governing Body of the Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences (SVIMS) to give wide publicity to ‘Praanadanam’ health scheme on par with the ‘Anna Daanam’ being implemented by TTD to render more medical services to the poor. 

Vijayawada: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu asked the Governing Body of the Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences (SVIMS) to give wide publicity to ‘Praanadanam’ health scheme on par with the ‘Anna Daanam’ being implemented by TTD to render more medical services to the poor.

The Chief Minister said more donors will come forward to help the poor patients if more publicity is given to the Praanadaanam health scheme.

Naidu discussed with the officials on the development of SVIMS during the 16th Governing body meeting convened at the CM camp office here on Monday.

Naidu has underlined the need for development of SVIMS as premier medical institution in the country and assured the officials that the State government will render all kinds of assistance for it.

The CM inquired about the services provided to the cardiac and cancer patients at the institute as a large number of patients from Rayalaseema depend on it to get services.

The Chief Minister also gave clearance for filling of 20 professors’ posts, 29 Associated Professors’ posts and 69 assistant professors’ posts during the meeting.

He directed the Governing Body to conduct the Silver Jubilee celebrations next year in a grand manner.
SVIMS Vice-Chancellor, Director Dr Ravi Kumar told the Chief Minister SVIMS needs Rs 190 crore for the development of hostels, medical college and maintenance.

Dr Ravi Kumar said the SVIMS is offering 65 courses to 1,424 students and plans were made to develop it from 755 beds hospital to 1,547 beds by 2017.

He told the Chief Minister that prestigious institutions from US, UK and other countries are ready to work with SVIMS. Chandrababu Naidu suggested to the officials to update the details of the patients, tests conducted and services provided by the Institute in the website.

He also inquired about the action plan made by officials to develop super specialty services in the institute. He suggested to the officials to take the services of consultancies for the development of Institute so that it can be transformed into a prestigious institution.
