Tirumala: The Pushkara Yatra vehicle, which is meant to carry the sacred puja items and sare to Krishnavenamma (Goddess Krishnaveni) for the ensuing Krishna Pushkaralu in Vijayawada was flagged off in a ceremonial manner in Tirumala on Wednesday.

TTD Trust Board chairman Dr Ch Krishnamurthy and TTD Executive Officer Dr D Sambasiva Rao took part in the programme held in front of Srivari temple.

Earlier, the sacred puja articles were placed at the holy feet of presiding deity Lord Venkateswara and were later carried up to Vaibhavotsava Mandapam where the materials were placed on the decorated vehicle to transport to Vijayawada in a shobha yatra.

Speaking on this occasion, the TTD chairman said all was set for the big river fete which is scheduled from August 12-23. "This sacred sare will reach the PWD Grounds in Vijayawada where the replica of the temple of Lord Venkateswara will be set up by TTD a day before its opening on August 7.

The TTD has also made elaborate Annaprasadam arrangements for the 12-day festival wherein over one lakh devotees will be served annaprasadams," he added.

The EO said the Pushkara Yatra vehicle carrying the puja articles, sare and deities (to be installed in the replica temple during pushkaralu) would reach Vijaywada PWD grounds covering the temple towns of Tiruchanoor, Vontimitta, Mahanandi, Srisailam, Mangalagiri, Amaravati en route.

This was mainly to build up the spiritual tempo ahead of major river fete and also provide an opportunity to the people in various places a glimpse of the deity and the sare to be offered to Krishnavenamma, following age old tradition and a gesture from Lord Venkateswara temple. TTD Trust Board member Ananta, temple Dy EO Rama Rao, peishkar R Selvam and others were also present.

Later, Tirumala JEO Srinivasa Raju received the yatra vehicle at Tiruchanur down the hills, the first stop of the yatra. The sare was taken into the temple to receive the blessing of Goddess Padmavathi after which the yatra proceeded to Vontimitta in Kadapa district.
