Vijayawada: Congress party took out a candle light rally in the city on Thursday demanding Special Category Status to the State. City Congress president and former MLA Malladi Vishnu took out a rally at Lenin Centre and Youth Congress State president Devineni Avinash took out another rally at Thummalapalli Kalakshetram.

Speaking on the occasion, Vishnu alleged that Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu was still dilly-dallying on Special Category Status as he was not in a position to dare Prime Minister Narendra Modi to protect the interests of the State.

He lamented that the Chief Minister was flaying the Congress, which introduced the Bill in Parliament and fighting for Special Category Status and other benefits.

He demanded that the TDP exert pressure on the BJP government and fight to achieve Special Category Status. He also asked the BJP not to render injustice to the State by denying Special Category Status and prove its commitment towards the State by accomplishing promises it made during the elections.

Devineni Avinash said that Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu had demanded Special Category Status for 10 years in the Rajya Sabha during the bifurcation of the State, but now he was backtracking.

Congress will continue the agitation until the wish of the people on SCS was realised, he said. PCC general secretary M Rajewara Rao, D Rajesh, K Chaitanya and others participated.
