Rajamahendravaram: After due deliberations with vice-chancellor and his team of Adikavi Nannaya University (AKNU), GSL Medical College, Rajamahendravaram signed an MoU with AKNU for academic collaboration, here on Thursday.

The objective of collaboration is to provide authenticity to the courses conducted by GSL Medical College in collaboration with various professional bodies.Admission, selection of students, curriculum implementation and evaluation of the students will be under the supervision of the university.

Participating faculty, residents, medical students, practising surgeons get the opportunity to learn surgical skills, hone skills to which they were exposed earlier and enrich themselves academically. They will be awarded validated certificates from the university.

Three years ago, GSL Medical College, Rajamahendravaram entered into an agreement with the board of governors, Laparoscopic Surgical Skills (LSS), the Netherlands to encourage educational and scientific cooperation.

Over the years, the cooperation had been successful in developing and implementing short-term courses in laparoscopic surgery and minimal access surgery in the field of general surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology.

Of late, the college has also collaborated with Indian Association of Endo Surgery and initiated fellowship and short-term courses in surgical skills.

Speaking at the programme of signing the MoU, Dr Ganni Bhaskara Rao clarified that these short courses conducted with the collaboration of LSS are available in India, only at GSL Medical College. Any postgraduate or practising surgeon from any part of the country can take admission to the course.

Answering a query on fee structure, he explained that this three-month course is heavily subsidised and will only cost less than Rs 50,000.

Speaking on the occasion, AKNU vice-chancellor Dr M Mutyala Naidu explained that with the signing of the MoU, the university has expanded the scope of academics to health care section, as well.

GSL Medical College principal Dr YN Sharma and medical superintendent Dr Murthy, AKNU registrar Dr Ramesh were also present.
