Vijayawada: The State is geared up to receive over five lakh cusecs of flood water from the upper riparian States in the next 48 hours. The 54 mm rainfall received in Maharashtra in the last 48 hours had alerted the officials in AP to get ready for heavy inflows.

The Minister said that the flood water is expected to reach Srisailam in the next 48 hours which would help the State to release water to Rayalaseema region.

The water levels at Srisailam stand at 48.49 tmcft against the full capacity of 215.81 tmcft.
The Prakasam Barrage in Vijayawada is receiving 7.89 tmcft every day, of which 6.30 tmcft is from Pattiseema lift irrigation scheme, the Minister said.

The Minister further said that the State had received 12.50 per cent excess rainfall this year. He said that the State had received 293.10 mm rainfall against the actual rainfall of 260.60 mm. This had placed the State in comfortable position this year, he said and added that the farmers have completed over 58 per cent sowing this season.

Out of the total cultivable land of 40.95 lakh hectares in the State, the farmers have completed sowing in 23.81 lakh hectares, which was 58 per cent when compared to the two previous years.

Referring to the breach to the Polavaram Right Main Canal that brings Godavari river water to Krishna from Pattiseema, the Minister said that the police and the officials of the Water Resources department were jointly probing into the issue. He expressed regrets over the breach in the canal and said that the breach is being repaired on a war footing.
