Srikakulam / Vizianagaram: Works under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) are helping to stem the tide of migrations in the backward districts of Srikakulam and Vizianagaram, said Works under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme.

She was heading a Central delegation that inspected MNREGS works in Srikakulam and Vizianagaram. The Central team inspected the works at Yagatipalem village in Ranastalam mandal of Srikakulam. They reviewed the plantation works under the ‘Pacchathoranam’ programme.

Suparna interacted with the villagers and enquired about their payments and working days. Later, she participated in an awareness meeting at Kammasigadam village on Friday where she said that the Central government was committed to the development of backward districts like Srikakulam. She said people needed to cooperate with the government in its green drive for a healthy society.

ZP Chairperson Ch Dhanalaxmi, district Collector P Laxminarasimhan and Project Director of DWMA R Kurmanadh participated in the awareness meet. The Central team then visited Kondalaxmipuram and Karlam villages in Cheepurapalli mandal of Vizianagaram. They were pleased with the check-dams, concrete roads and drains constructed under MNREGS in Kondalaxmipuram.

They also lauded the quality of vegetable crops produced by the farmers of Karlam. Interacting with the public, Suparna appreciated the construction of toilets, anganwadi buildings and water tanks in the district and said that these help in improving the overall standard of living of the people.

She complimented the district administration on doing a good job. The team was accompanied by Prashanti, Project Director of DWMA.
