Addressing the meeting here on Friday, the Minister felt that all the local bodies across the world were facing the problem of solid waste management and thanked the organisers for conducting the international meet on such an important topic in the city.

Visakhapatnam: Minister for HRD Ganta Srinivasa Rao asked the experts at the international conference on ‘Solid Waste Management’ jointly organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation to suggest appropriate solution for the management of solid waste.

Addressing the meeting here on Friday, the Minister felt that all the local bodies across the world were facing the problem of solid waste management and thanked the organisers for conducting the international meet on such an important topic in the city.

About the frequent problems being faced by the local bodies in managing the solid waste, the Minister said that the public were also not cooperating in earmarking a dumping yard in their areas and at the same time, the State government is committed to make the State as Swachhandhra Pradesh as part of Swachh Bharat Mission programme.

If the technical experts and intellectuals attending the meet suggest ways and means to overcome the problem, it would be possible for the government to chalk out an action plan for effective solid waste management,” he added.

Former AP State Special Chief Secretary S Chakravarti said that a detailed report on the solid waste management would be submitted to the government after taking the suggestions from the participants into consideration.

National Technical Expert of Swachh Bharat Mission Almitra H Patel gave a powerpoint presentation on the rules, regulations and related Acts on the solid waste management.

Municipal Commissioner M Harinarayanan dwelt on the steps being taken for the solid waste management in the corporation limits. Local Zonal chairman of CII V Murali Krishna and experts from various countries and from different States in the country discussed best procedures to be adopted.
