Vijayawada: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Friday said that he had asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to make a statement on the Central government’s plans for Andhra Pradesh during the current session of Parliament.

Speaking to mediapersons here after his return to the State from New Delhi, Naidu said that he had met the Prime Minister and invited him for Krishna Pushkaralu.

During the meeting, he had raised the issues concerning the State, including the Special Category Status, package to backward districts, Polavaram project, Dugarajapatnam Port, railway zone, steel plant in Kadapa and revenue gap.

The Chief Minister said he had briefed the Prime Minister about the sentiments of the people over the Special Status and reiterated that people would not accept anything other than Special Category Status to the State.
He had also requested the Prime Minister to honour the promises made to the people in Parliament and also during the elections.

He said he had requested the Prime Minister to make a statement giving clarity on the Central government’s plans to help Andhra Pradesh.

He expressed confidence that the Prime Minister would make a statement shortly. He further said that he had also raised the same issues with Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley.

The Finance Minister too had given assurance to extend help to the State compensating the loss caused to the State in the post-bifurcation.

When asked whether he had seen any change in the Finance Minister who made a statement in the Rajya Sabha against the Special Status last week and on Friday,

the Chief Minister said that Arun Jaitley had realised the need and importance of honouring the provisions of the AP Reorgansiation Act and the promises made by Parliament.

He further said he had reminded the Finance Minister of the responsibilities of the BJP and TDP to fulfill the promises made during the 2014 election.

He thanked the eleven parties in Parliament which have extended support to the State during the debate on KVP Ramachandra Rao’s private member bill.

However, he found fault with the Congress and the YSR Congress for playing a political game in the name of the private member’s bill.

He justified the role played by the TDP MPs in Parliament and asserted that only TDP and BJP would get justice done to the State in the post-bifurcation.
