Nidadavole CI M Balakrishna told media persons here on Friday that Jayavarapu Krishna (42) of Kondruprolu in Tadepalligudem, posing as a Christian preacher, visited the house of one Kaki Suryarao in Gandhinagar Park area of Nidadavole town on Wednesday and introduced himself as a healer. After observing Suryarao’s wife Achayamma who is suffering from paralysis, he said he would pray for her health.

As Suryarao went out to bring some snacks, Krishna asked Achayamma to remove her mangalasutra as it was a hurdle in his prayers. Believing his words, Achayamma gave the mangalasutra to him and closed her eyes as told by him. Krishna, after taking the chain, escaped from the place.

On the complaint of Surya Rao, police registered a case. On Friday morning, on a tip-off, the police nabbed him at Settipeta and recovered three-and-a-half sovereigns of gold worth Rs 65,000 from him. SI Bhagavan Prasad was also present at the press meet.
