Speaking on the occasion, former MLA and City Congress president Malladi Vishnu said that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu was not willing to snap ties with BJP to protect his own interests despite the Centre making it clear in Parliament that it was not possible to grant Special Category Status to Andhra Pradesh. 

Vijayawada: Congress staged a protest demanding Special Category Status to Andhra Pradesh at Kaleswara Rao market here on Tuesday. Congress leaders and activists took out a rally from Andhra Ratna Bhavan to Kaleswara Rao market raising slogans against the Centre and the State governments.

Speaking on the occasion, former MLA and City Congress president Malladi Vishnu said that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu was not willing to snap ties with BJP to protect his own interests despite the Centre making it clear in Parliament that it was not possible to grant Special Category Status to Andhra Pradesh.

Both the BJP and TDP have forgotten the promise they had made in the previous elections and are deceiving the people by making false statements,” he lamented.

Pradesh Congress Committee Secretary Naraharisetti Narasimha Rao demanded that the TDP Ministers in the Union Cabinet quit immediately as the BJP government was non-committal on according Special Category to the Sate.

The leaders also celebrated the Quit India Day at Andhra Ratna Bhavan. PCC spokesperson K Sivaji, State Mahila Congress president S Padmasri and other leaders participated.
