Amalapuram: A compensation of Rs 4 lakh each is to be paid to the two seriously injured Dalits following the recent attack at Sudapalem, SC/ST Commission chairman Karem Sivaji announced here on Thursday, after conducting an inquiry into the incident at local revenue divisional office.

He said two others with minor injuries would be paid Rs 1 lakh each. Orders to this effect have been issued. Sivaji called on the injured in the area hospital here. During the inquiry, the DSP's investigation report in the SC, ST case was read out amid complaints that the official conduct was not proper.

Some victims brought to the commission's notice that the police had taken the attacked persons to the hospital in the same vehicle carrying the carcass of the dead cow. Sivaji directed DSP L Ankayya to furnish a comprehensive report. The commission suggested to the RDO to sanction house sites to the victims' families.

Deputy Chief Minister Nimmakayala Chinnarajappa called on the injured in the hospital along with MLA A Anand Rao. He said the government would provide all assistance to them, besides ensuring stringent action against the attackers.

Meanwhile, the eight person allegedly involved in the attack, Vaka Gopi of Rangapura, was arrested on Thursday, Amalapuram CI Y R K Srinivas said. Seven persons have been arrested so far in the case of attack on Dalits for skinning the dead cow on the outskirts of Uppalaguptam.
