Farmers block road demand water
The tenant farmers under the aegis of Andhra Pradesh Koulu Rythu Sangham (APKRS) took out a rally at Kothuru Centre and staged road blockade blocking vehicular traffic on Eluru-Pedapadu road.
Eluru: Irate farmers alleging that water was not reaching the Krishna Delta staged a road blockade seeking immediate water release to save the standing crops.Farmers belonging to Kothuru village in Pedapadu said the State government halted the flow of water from Pattiseema Lift Irrigation Scheme (PLIS) into Krishna River in view of Krishna Pushkaralu.

APKRS State general secretary P Jamalayya said the crops under Krishna Ayacut would wither if immediate action was not taken. APKRS district secretary K Srinivas, leaders Avala Mohan Rao, Pallapothu Reddiyya and Ch Peddiraju raised slogans against the government for not addressing the farmers’ grievances. They criticised the irrigation department officials for failing to ensure regular water supply for crops.
