Vijayawada: The Heart and Brain Institute of Andhra Hospitals in association with Healing Little Hearts of the United Kingdom successfully performed 19 free paediatric heart surgeries in the city from August 7 to 13.

Addressing a news conference here on Saturday, Dr PV Ramana Murthy, Managing Director of Andhra Hospitals, said the children, who underwent surgeries for congenital heart diseases and multiple heart defects, are recuperating and they would be discharged in a few days. Andhra Hospitals has been performing paediatric heart surgeries for the past two years.

Healing Little Hearts has been associated with Andhra Hospitals for the past one year. It successfully performed 17 free pediatric heart surgeries in December 2015, 15 in March, 2016 and 19 in August, he said.

Dr P V Rama Rao, chief of children’s services of Andhra Hospitals, congratulated the team of paediatric cardiac surgeons of Healing Little Hearts and Heart and Brain Institute for achieving 100 per cent success rate.

Dr Vikram Kudumula of the UK said Healing Little Hearts was planning to take up more heart care programmes in future in association with Andhra Hospitals.

Dr Dileep of Heart and Brain Institute, Dr Srimannarayana and Dr Ramesh of Andhra Hospitals and the children, who underwent heart surgeries and their parents, were present at the news conference.
