Visakhapatnam: Collector and Special Officer of the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation Praveen Kumar ordered the officials to complete the on-going city beautification works in a fortnight.

He inspected the area from Hanumanthuvaka junction to Gajuwaka on Friday, along with civic body chief M Harinarayanan, on Friday. As the existing abattoir at Hanumanthuvaka was shifted to the modern abattoir at Marikavalasa, Praveen Kumar asked the officials to construct public toilets there to prevent open defecation and to beautify the Hanumanthuvaka junction further as it is the gateway to the health city, where majority of corporate hospitals are located.

He also asked them to build a retaining wall at the hill slope area and a traffic island at Hanumanthuvaka forthwith. The officials were also directed to beautify the medians on the national highway at Kancharapalem and to initiate steps to prevent encroachments by petty vendors as they disfigure the area.

Remove wild plants from the Green Belts and plant new flowering or ornament saplings. Construct Kerb walls at all the Green Belts and take up painting works to all the grills to help give a facelift to the national highway,” he suggested. After examining the toilets built at Gajuwaka junction, he felt that the traffic island and the central median grills should be beautified and painted.

Later, when he visited the Telugu Talli junction at Maddilapalem and the Asselmetta flyover, the Collector directed the engineering officials to beautify the entire area under the flyover. Harinarayanan apprised the Collector about the steps taken up for beautification of the city in view of the ensuing BRICS Urbanisation Forum Summit.
